Why massage horses?

Horses tell us when something is wrong. Sometimes we think they are being naughty but normally there is a reason for these behaviours.

Equine massage works on the soft tissue and muscles of the horse to improve movement, flexibility and aids healing.

Benefits of massaging horses

There are many benefits of massaging horses. Some of the ways massage can benefit your horse include:

  • improve flexibility, range of motion, and posture. It can also help with muscle tension and discomfort, and reduce the risk of injury.

  • pain relief and can improve a horse's stamina, coat condition and shine

  • help horses relax mentally and physically, and can reduce stress and anxiety.

  • help balance a horse's nervous system, and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system, which is known as the "Relaxation Response".

  • help improve a horse's circulation, and can help stimulate the lymphatic system, digestive system, and respiratory system. It can also help balance a horse's endocrine system and help remove toxins from the horse’s body

  • help promote injury rehabilitation. For example, manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) can help with edema, which is a fluid accumulation in the tissues and can break down scar tissue adhesions.
